About

Shapes Of Rhythm launches its new label with a collaborative release from its two founders, Tom Central and BodyMovesDual Thought is a collection of beats and syncopations, weaving a dusty patchwork of samples around contemporary beats.

Gilles Peterson gave the EP its radio debut, playing Himba on BBC Radio 6 Music. As well as this, Wish has been premiered on Gilles’ WorldwideFM station, and Himba has also racked up plays on California’s KCRW.

Starting with a pile of LPs and a classic home studio set-up, the EP was created by a handful of jam sessions between the two artists featuring turntables, laptops, a couple of synths and a NI Maschine. Textura opens the EP with a swinging hip hop beat, African atmospheres and rhythms with a sprinkle of the LA beat sound. One For Crates is also hip hop but this time melodic, instrumental and is an ode to the Brixton beats night Crates. BodyMoves flies solo for Wish, with a 90 bpm beat-driven soul cut with its feet firmly in Brasil. It’s the spiritual follow up to This Is Gabor’s House from his well received 2015 debut North Spaulding EP on Keep Up! Records. This featured in some notable end of year “best of” lists, including Dom Servini (Wah Wah 45) and Rob Luis (Tru Thoughts), as well as being debuted by Stamp The Wax, and championed by DJ MagHimba closes the EP with Afro-centric grooves with plenty of percussion and bass.
